MUSTACHES AND MAC CUP

Don't forget the deadline for the Mustache Competition is this Friday, August 29th. We MUST have all submissions no later than 11:59 PM that night. The password to write on a sticky note and hold up in the picture will be posted on Thursday. Also, if you want us to crop the picture to protect your identity, let us know in the email you send with the picture. Send your emails to 'dannyfordisgod -at- gmail -dot- com'. Check out the official rules on the competition by clicking "mustaches" at the bottom of this post. You should be able to scroll and find them.

Also, don't forget to make your picks for the Mac Cup no later than 5 minutes before the first game. I'm assuming the deadline is 11:55 am on Saturday, but go ahead and make your picks anyways before Saturday morning.

Lastly, the following people need to send me an email of how we know you or what your handle is so we can verify that you participate with our website.

Names that need confirmation: cutiger09, clemsoniceman, Oblong Balls Carried with Force, chicagotiger91, Korn Nutz, clemsonjaymo, Willy Korn pulls out, & magic hobo.

If I don't get an email by Friday letting me know who you are and how you participate then consider yourself booted from the group. Sorry to do this, but there's an expensive bottle of booze on the line here and I'm going to use my every advantage to ensure a fair contest.

THE MAC IS BACK

That's right, you heard me right. The Macallan Cup wheels have officially starting turning and the season is underway. You can sign up for our group at Yahoo College Pick'em (Group ID #5146). The password this year?

2007 Mac Cup Champion

Sambo, Crown Royal XR

2006 Mac Cup Champion

Chili, The Macallan 18 Year Sherry Oak*

* - Due to Willy Mac being an idiot and getting the wrong kind.

Rules:

-If there are any problems, DFIG reserves the right to hold an emergency meeting of parliament and make decisions based on what’s best for our site.

- If you win, we give you a bottle of booze at the end of the regular season. Usually it’s The Macallan 18-year-old, but if you want a different bottle of booze at lesser value, whatever. If one of us wins, the loser buys the winner a bottle.

- This lasts from the beginning of the season until the end of the regular season (naturally). End of the regular season being after conference championships and before bowl games. If you don’t feel comfortable with us having your home address… doing a little bit of stalking… taking some personal reconnaissance pictures of you and your family… then don’t sign up….but if you find a nice pile of manturd… just know…. we were there.

- Finally, we are asking that you actually be a reader of our site. Honor code here people. Also we ask that you use real handles (such as jasonl, NoleCC, Brad, DC87, Sambo, Tully, etc.) and if we feel that you’re using more than one handle you’re banninated. Also, if you know people that posted in previous years that haven’t really kept up with the site in the off season, let them know. Usually, we can figure out who’s who via email addresses so if you don’t usually or haven’t commented, given us feedback, or kept up with the site don’t be upset when you get the boot from the competition. Also, just because you’re a friend or someone we know doesn’t buy you rights to the competition. This is for our regular readers.

- TBIAM automatically loses.

4. Lyrtch - 126 pts
5. Seigler - 125 pts

Once bowl game assignments are finalized, we'll set up a new group for our 2nd Big Fat Bowl Challenge.

"Damnit, I wanted that booze."

MACALLAN CUP UPDATE: HEARTBREAK EDITION

Well what can I really say, getting the most picks this week is little solace for the defeat suffered last night. One more week left in the season now though, and thus one more week for the Mac Cup. Unless a miracle happens, these standings probably aren't going to change much. Who knows though, you could be just tasting that scotch and BAM!, it's gone. Wow does that sound familiar. Here's what things looked like this week:

1) Sam +120 (8)
T2) Chili +115 (9)
T2) Lyrtch +115 (10)
T4) Tully +114 (8)
T4) Seigler +114(12)
6) Willy Mac +109(8)
7) NoleCC +94 (0)

MACALLAN CUP UPDATE

Another good week for all involved, but the time is running out for someone to overtake Sam. He's back to his normal form this week with 10 correct picks, which was good enough for third place. Tully continues his resurgence, winning this week with 12 correct picks ( but seriously, who in their right mind picks Maryland to beat the spread against BC). At least their were no pushes this week, let's hope that nonsense doesn't happen again. Here's how things shook out this week

1) Sam +112 (10)
T2) Chili +106 (10)
T2) Tully +106 (12)
4) Lyrtch +105 (11)
5) Seigler +102(11)
6) Willy Mac +101(8)
7) NoleCC +94 (6)

LE MAC: WEEK 3 RESULTS

Sam is still riding the coattails of his 14 correct picks from week one but people are catching up. He's only out in front by two picks. Astonishingly, Chili is in the middle of the pack. Not so astonishingly, I'm feeding the bottom yet again. Time for me to start taking my vitamins, doing my homework, and getting to bed at night. Hulkamania mode, brother.

1) Sambo
2) Tully's angels
3) Lyrtch
T4) Chili
T4) NoleCC
6) Brad
T7) Willy Mac
T7) Seigler
9) Captain

MACALLAN CUP STANDINGS: WEEK 2

Picking teams based on the spread is tough. It humbled many of our contestants this week, with the best showing this week being a measly 12 out of 20. The standings are as follows:

1. Sam 26 pts
2. Chili 22 pts
t3. Brad 21 pts
t3. Tully 21 pts
t5. Nole 20 pts
t5. Lyrtch 20 pts
7. Willy Mac 19 pts
8. Seigler 18 pts
9. Captain 13 pts

Hopefully next week we finish out a little better with our pigskin prognostication.

06 September 2007

MACALLAN CUP STANDINGS: WEEK 1

After arguably one of the crazier weeks in recent college football history, Sambo takes the lead in the race for the scotch. I absolutely faceplanted and was obviously hitting myself in the head with a tac hammer while I was putting in my picks. Thanks Phil Steele, you really F'ed that one up. Don't bail on us yet. As last year proved, sometimes people miss a week or two and it ruins their run. Sam was the only picker to correctly guess the ASU upset of Michigan, just so you know.

This weeks standings:
1) Sambo (14-5)
2) Captain (13-6)
T3) Lyrtch (12-7)
T3) Chili (12-7)
T3) Brad (12-7)
T6) Willy Mac (11-8)
T6) NoleCC (11-8)
T6) Seigler (11-8)
9) Tully (10-9)

Don't forget to pick this week. And no, we're not changing the spread format. You've got to earn our love... and our alcohol. We don't just want you copying the expert picks.

RANDOM UPDATES

A couple of things for you this Monday.

- RF365 is continuing their nice 5 part piece on Clemson football tradition. The third and most recent installment covers the Danny Ford Era and does a good job of covering the ins and outs, good and bad of this divisive and historic time for Clemson football.

- While we are reserving the official Macallan Cup Yahoo! College Pick 'Em group for select readers/blog friends/contributors, anyone and everyone can sign up for our second tier group Danny's B-Team. Group ID#:10176, password: benchwarmer. We'll post the standings of this group every week along with the first stringers. Join up if you're not in on the Mac Cup.

- Scotty Cooper has been moved to LB, his high school position at Lake City High. Miachael Wade moves over to the other side of the ball, giving a try to safety. Kevin Alexander moves up to defensive end and Miguel Chavez slides over to DT.

WEDNESDAY NEWS AND MACALLAN CUP UPDATE

NEWS

- Willy Korn, Barry Richardson, and Michael Hamlin participated in a local charity spelling bee last Wednesday. Does this mean that their legend meter in NCAA 08 just went up +1??? Let's just hope they don't "stub their toe in the middle of the night, awareness -2, injury -2, speed -2, jump -1" the day before the FSU game.

- "Foaming-at-the-Mouth Day", otherwise known as Clemson Fan Appreciation Day will be held August 12. Details here. My favorite part is "Due to the expected demand and in an attempt to accommodate as many fans as possible, fans will only be allowed to have one item autographed or one picture taken with James Davis and CJ Spiller..." Does that mean we can bring a gang of items for Jimmy Maners to sign?

- I stated earlier that season ticket packages were still available. They're sold out now, sorry. Also, the FSU, NC State, and South Carolina games are completely sold out.

- As of 8pm EST today, there will be 32 days left till kickoff. Look for the video countdowns to start again here shortly. I know everyone does that, but it's obligational.

MACALLAN CUP 2007

- It's here again. This year, we are doing it a la Yahoo College Football Pick Em'. Sign up and use the group ID '7272' and the password karibyron because who doesn't like that redheaded Mythbusters goddess? We will still post results here on the main page after every weekend.

Why, hello there Kari. Any chick that makes beer frosty and cold in stilletos and a bra is fine by me.

- Chili and I have been discussing switching the type of liquor just to shake things up. If you want, give us a few ideas in the comments section located at the bottom of the post. Please, no anonymous posters, as we take this thing real damn serrerus.

- Same as last year, you win, we send you a bottle of booze at the end of the regular season. End of the regular season being after conference championships and before bowl games. If you don' feel comfortable with either me or Chili having your home address... doing a little bit of stalking... taking some personal reconnaissance pictures of you and your family... then don't sign up....but if you find a nice pile of manturd... just know.... we were there.

- Finally, we are asking that you actually be a reader of our site. Honor code here people. Also we ask that you use real handles (such as jasonl, NoleCC, Brad, Lola, Sambo, Tully, etc.) and if we feel that you're using more than one handle you're banninated. Also, if you know people that posted last year that haven't really kept up with the site in the off season, let them know. We haven't heard from Lola in ages and can't seem to find her contact info.

FINAL RESULTS (from the 2006 season, out of a field of over 25)
Name – Score – Record - Percentage

1. Chili -36 – 104-36 – 74%
2. Lola -48 – 92-48 – 65%
3. Willy Mac -51 – 89-51 – 63.5%
4. Brad (12th Manchild) -52 – 88-52 – 62.75%

Keep the sweet, sweet, Macallan or switch it up? What's your input?

This week marked the final week of the Macallan Cup Pick 10. Remember, the winner will get a bottle of The Macallan Fine Oak, 18 Year Old. I AM TEH WINNAR!!!!! I am looking forward to next year when we have even more regular pickers and a little better competition, though Lola gave me a run for my money. Next year we will probably pick games by spreads, more than likely using a Yahoo! Fantasy Sports group. Willy Mac, I want my booze! Gimmie!

It's safe to say that the bottle of Macallan is going to be Chili's barring him having a stroke. The real battle now is for third place between Brad and myself. As you can tell, this week has been a bag blog week for Chili and I both. I've had five tests this week and have one to go. Chili has been swamped at work. Since our boys in orange are taking the week off, we feel that we deserve one too. We're gonna give the blog some love in the mouth all next week. We'll make it up to you. And we promise, we weren't out till all hours of the night with other blogs. Seriously... you can trust us. Along with your picks, we're going to ask that you post your top five favorite Clemson/USC games of all time (#1 being your favorite). Even if you don't post picks, post your top five games. I tried, I really did, but it was just too easy. Well, ok. Only in a women's football league would they have "I'm So Excited" by the Pointer Sisters as the theme music for their highlight videos.

Check for our NC State preview post tomorrow.

GEORGIA TECH POSTGAME & MAC CUP STANDINGS

Mr. James Davis... crushing dreams and destroying confidence since 2005

Willy Mac’s prediction: “If Reggie Ball implodes: Clemson 31, Tech 10.”

I might be wrong, but this is probably the most accurate of all the predictions I saw from the blogging crowd and the mainstream sportswriters. Good job WM. If you want to see some really funny predictions, check out The Hive’s GT-Clemson score prediction thread. I’m not quite sure whether Saturday was a case of 1) Georgia Tech being way overrated by writers and fans 2) Clemson being underrated by writers and fans or 3) just outplaying and outcoaching GT. The answer is probably a combination of the three.

THE GOOD

Our CJ is better. At least he was Saturday night; 116 yards rushing and 50 yards receiving, 2 touchdowns on the night. The other CJ had 0 catches, 0 tds, and -4 yards rushing. I hoped Clemson would have contained Calvin Johnson but I never would have predicted it would be a complete whitewashing of the Heisman hopeful. The defense helped pressure Reggie Ball, keeping him from gaining successful yardage on draw plays and keeping the little guy so flustered he couldn’t get the ball to Calvin “Chan Gailey’s Meal Ticket” Johnson.

James Davis had the best game out of anyone with a career-high 216 yards rushing, a feat that garnered him the Walter Camp Foundation player of the week award.

For the first time in Clemson history, two running backs had 200/100 + performances in a game.

The highlight recap of the game was so brutal, it looks like Chan Gailey killed a puppy in the locker room before the game.
All I can think about is what on earth did Chan Gailey's halftime speech sound like??? "Look fellas, we're gonna go out there this second half and totally let the wheels fall off of the bandwagon. I've got a lot of money riding on Clemson covering, so Calvin, Reggie, I need you two to really try your best to look like you don't deserve a scholarship." Clemson ran the ball so well, they could probably not pass the ball for the rest of the season and win out.

Jad Dean showed a lot of improvement. According to Bowden his kicks were higher and went further than anytime previously this season. Maybe mental cushioning in preparation for the game in Blacksburg this coming Thursday.

THE BAD

Roman Fry tore his ACL and is out for the season. I hate to see another senior end his career early. The silver lining to this is that it will give junior Chris McDuffie some more experience that will be sorely needed when we replace 4 seniors on the line next year. McDuffie stepped in and did a great job for Fry, even earning the team’s “12th Man” award.

THE UGLY

Some would say the purple uniforms, though they didn’t bother me much. Let the team wear whatever color they want.

Maybe the ugliest moment was after the game. Chan Gailey didn’t have much to say about the shutdown of Johnson. Johnson and offensive coordinator Chris Nix didn’t have anything to say about the matter. Gailey barred them from speaking to reporters after the game.

GAMEDAY (Willy Mac)

Clemson fans showed Gameday a great time and really showed the university in a positive light. From what I saw from Tivo, all three guys loved the experience and Herbstreit even dubbed the event as the "best Gameday all year, perhaps the best one I've been to ever." I know for a fact, the Gameday broadcast was the loudest that ESPN has had all year, reaching an astounding 117 decibels. Our sign was a huge success. For the most part, Clemson fans had some of the funniest signs in the nation, including an enlarged photo of Lou Holtz accompanied by the phrase "shixty shree to sheventeen." The only thing I didn't really enjoy was waking up at 6AM. For the first time in my life, I experienced three hangovers in the span of 36 hours. Woof.

MACALLAN CUP STANDINGS, WEEK 8 PICK TEN

Just to refresh your memory, the best prognosticator at the end of the season receives a bottle of The Macallan Fine Oak, Aged 18 Years. This past week the Mac cup saw some of its worst scores of the season with nobody getting any less than three misses. So, I walk by my computer on Saturday and see an instant message from Willy Mac: AW I’M COMING BACK!!! THAT BOTTLE OF MAC IS MINE!, failing to realize that while he only missed 3, the same number that I had missed, not exactly the plan for making up ground on a 8 pick deficit. Misguided hubris aside, here are last week’s results and this week’s picks. Get yer picks in by Thursdee.
