WAKE FOREST PREVIEW

Wake Forest (6-3 ,4-2) at #20 Clemson (7-2, 4-2) Saturday, November 10th, 12:00 EST. ESPN2, XM 191.

The Line: Clemson -9

Edge goes to:

Offense: Clemson

Defense: Clemson

Special Teams: Wake Forest

Intangibles: Push, because of Jim Grobe's relative success against Bowden matching up with a Tiger team focused on making it to the ACC Championship Game.

Our panel of pigskin prognosticators predict:

Seigler:
I don't really have much to say this week. It seems every week I come out and give two versions of the game, and neither is really correct. I think Clemson will take care of business again this weekend and move into the BC game with a lot to potentially lose. I think we've learned our lesson about looking past Wake. This finish the job campaign seems to be doing the trick, let's hope our recent successes are matched again tomorrow.

Clemson 21 Wake 17

Willy Mac: I'll give you what you want to hear. The basics are that we have a great run game and they have a great run defense. I expect us to have some trouble starting out, but we figure things outs. They have a terrible pass defense. If Wake did their homework and watched the VT game, they could capitalize on the special teams game and take over. If not, which is more than likely, we take control quick and keep it. Shades of the Maryland game.

Clemson 38, Wake 16

Chili: The normal on-air pundits have already weighed in on their opinion of the game, based on their media-standard short and fuzzy memory of the Tigers' football prior football seasons. I turned it to CSS the other day and a cadre of chuckling morons talked about the Tigers perennial tumble at the end of the year before moving on to more pressing SEC matters. Yes, if you've only watched the past year and a half of Tiger football maybe this is true, but Bowden has been known to rally the troops down the stretch and save his ass in years prior. I don't think Clemson is going to let us down this week. They know what's at stake here. Our offense is clicking really well and should continue to do so against Wake's subpar D. Our defense will do a good job containing Riley Skinner. I see this game as a battle with the Tigers pulling it out in the end.

Clamson 29, Wake 22

  1. Best all around game against a semi-solid opponent since the UT shellacking in the Peachbowl.

I would say it's the best game of the Bowden era. The tigers have a legitimate shot at beating the overrated BC team next week.

  2. I'm not sure how to take that, Willy Mac. Is that a "gee that was close, wink wink, Clemson sure is good" or is it a "yeah, good job predicting a close game Nostradamus?"

  3. A little of both. I do have to agree with Jason about the victory being comparable to Tennessee and a solid one at that. One thing is for sure, we're not too shabby at defense. Koening has done a great job.

  4. This is coming from two of the only guys who picked Wake to win in the Mac Cup...

  5. Seigler, sweety, I didn't pick them to win, I picked them to beat the spread. Familiar with betting at all?

Also, Willy Mac, for your sake, I'll take it that you weren't calling me out considering your awful picking record compared to mine and the fact we both went the same way in the Mac cup for the Wake game this week.

  8. We all got too busy with school for the blog, but we'll have one more Lowsman post, for the winner, probably the day of the Heisman presentation. Sorry, we're lazy - Lowsman guy

  9. Once again, sorry I am late to the party. Awesome win. I have dreaded the Wake game all season long and we not only managed to show up, we actually beat them like an old school "Wake for homecoming" game. Although, I really can't find much happiness in these vitories as I know BC is looming on the horizon. They've lost two in a row and What's His Name's Heisman hopes are quickly fading away, so hopefully we can put a cap on their season and take them out. I'm hoping the momentum of the past three games continues and we really roll up the score on them. I just don't think I can take another double OT loss against BC.
