BOSTON COLLEGE PREVIEW

#18 Boston College (8-2, 5-2) @ #15 Clemson (8-2, 5-2). Saturday, Nov. 17th, 7:45 EST, ESPN2, XM Radio 191. WCCP FM 104.9 - Live feed.

Line: Clemson -8, over/under 52.5

Edge Goes To:

Offense: Push (Clemson and BC are neck and neck atop the standings of ACC total offense)

Defense: Clemson

Special Teams: Push

Intangibles: Pushhhhhh. Both teams are playing for the division title. BC desperately needs to salvage their nosediving season before they end up back in Boise. Clemson has gone nowhere but up since being mugged by VT and could bring the school its first ACC title since 1991 with a win here and in Jacksonville.

Our panel of 16oz Jimmy Dean Sausage fans say:

Chili: Clemson faces one of the tougher run defenses they've seen all year in Boston College. Boston College faces one of the stoutest pass defenses they've run into. Tastes great! Less filling! You got cocaine in my heroin! You got heroin in my cocaine! I have been pretty preoccupied thinking about this game in terms of the ramifications of a Clemson loss or win. A win gives Clemson the Atlantic Division title and sends them to Jacksonville to play the winner of the Hokie-Hoo game. A loss would squash the Tigers' momentum and send them reeling into next week's matchup with Sakerlina. I think Harper takes over the Matt Ryan role and exploits BC's injured defense. If BC switches up their D to stop the pass, we go to the run. Conversely I think Ryan finds his receivers as he's done in the past. This game should be epic, and go down to the wire. I have to pick Clemson in this one.

Clemson 31, BC 24

Seigler: This is probably the defining game of Tommy Bowden's time at Clemson. This could also be the game that makes or break his season. Really, even if we manage to beat the Gamecocks next week, 9 wins will mean nothing without a spot in the title game. I expect Clemson to be well prepared, Cullen Harper hasn't felt Willy Korn breathing down his neck this year as much as some of us predicted, but he knows that the pressure is on if he wants to stay on top of the depth chart. Harper will continue his superb play this weekend, and lead the Tigers to a victory, however small the margin may be. I expect this to be a hard fought, close game, much like the last two meetings between these teams. Of course there is always a chance for the Tigers to stink things up in style but I just can't see a meltdown happening this week. True, BC needs to win to stop their slide and prove they weren't completely overrated all year, but I just can't see their awesome offense overcoming our awesome defense. They will rely on the pass and Clemson seems to be one of the best in the nation at defending against the pass. I think Matt Ryan might get very close to Phil Merling and others this weekend and he probably won't like the time they spend together. I look for Davis and Spiller to continue their good play. I'd really like to see Davis hit the 1,000 yard mark this game, but BC has a decent run defense. We won't be able to really rely on one facet of our game this week and I'm hoping Rob Spence knows that. BC's special teams will have to work hard to stop CJ Spiller this week and I'm hoping he'll continue his resurgence and run all over them. If things go according to plan this game will be all Clemson, despite what the scoreboard might say. I'm looking for Clemson to cover:

Clemson 35 BC 21

Willy Mac: I'm really not trying to be a homer. I've looked at games on my Tivo for both teams. I've been thinking about this game since the open date. I've gone back and done my homework. I've been thinking about it a lot. My worries have come less and less the past few weeks as Boston College has looked shaky since their encounter with Virginia Tech. I really think that their run defense is stout but key injuries will help us running the ball against them. I think our passing attack will cut their terrible pass defense apart seeing as they've been making terrible QBs look like stunners all year. Defensively, if we can put as much pressure on them as we did Wake, and jumble Matt Ryan up, he's done. I think we get this thing wrapped up quick. Before you know it, you'll be throwing oranges at Hokies/Cavaliers in no time.

  1. So if Clemson wins tomorrow, Cullen is most likely going to win the ACC Player of the Year. Thus, with the reigning ACC POTY winner back behind center, why do I still want Willy Korn to start next year?

  2. Sam, that's a question for the EKR
Only the EKR can answer that with the full awesomeness that only EKR can give.

  3. I know, that was my intention. EKR is the most boner-ific read on the entire internet, possible in history.

  4. How am i supposed to feed a family of five with a 12oz. package of sausage??? I guess I'm going to have to get my sausage made, like I did thirty some years ago. It's not as tasty as your sausage, Willy Korn, but it'll have to do.

I hope Phillip Merling and Ricky Sapp make Matty Ryan look like this by the end of the game.

    Also, fuck the homeless.

  5. It's a fact: Jimmy Dean only makes several packages of their 16 oz regular sausage anymore, and they all go to Willy Korn.

Also, Tully, when we gonna get in on some TF2 action? Willy Mac and Seigler have both downloaded it too, we need to get an all-DFIG server going.

  6. Soon. I'd love to make you guys look stupid in online internet video games. I haven't been playing online games as much lately. In related news, a pig just flew by my window.

  7. As a sports fan, I am by nature a superstitious person. For tonight's game, I'll be wearing my lucky Clemson 1989 Gator Bowl shirt, which is only reserved for wear during the most important of games. I agree that the pressure will be on Saint Tommy tonight, but I think his well-known addiction to the movie "Rudy" will pay off with a win. If someone could only stop Spence from calling idiotic bubble-screens in the 2nd half, I might predict a blowout. Regardless, I think we take this one and head to the title game. If we win big, I hope to see lots of Rally Cat pics on here next week...

  8. Well, it's all over and I'm devastated. I came here because this is my favorite Clemson website. I just want to thank you guys for doing such a great job all season long though the ups and downs of another year of Bowden Ball. I may be able to stomach another game by next Saturday, but I really don't know at this point. This loss really, really hurt. It wasn't that we lost to a team from Boston, it wasn't the build-up, it wasn't having to listen to those retards Bob Davie and Bryant Gumble Jr. for four hours. It reminds me of that "I've never felt this way before" post. I let myself get suckered back in and allowed myself to believe. And it was all smoke and mirrors. And bubble-screens. Shit.

  9. I'm devastated as well, but I don't think this one was coaching, I think we plain old just got out played. Aaron Kelly's dropped pass and the lack of coverage on Gunnell's TD sunk us. We fought a good fight, but it still sucks. I really don't have words to describe my feelings, but I think Clemson just ruined my plans for next weekend... Now it's time drink the rest of the beer in my fridge.

  10. oh yeah, and Bucholz should have made that first FG, the last one it was unfair to ask him to try for a 54 yarder and expect him to make it. Still, the first one was all his fault.

  11. Seigler, I have to disagree. Coaching is more than just what is going on during one game. All the mistakes you mentioned...yeah, those were mistakes, those were F-Ups, but as Clemson fans we have to look at the big picture: what led us to this point in the season where there was that much pressure on our team to beat a banged-up Boston College team with basically Matt Ryan and Challenger on offense? What led us to the point where we HAVE to win ONE game, so much so that the head coach's nervousness is transferred to the entire team? And you can't tell me that a center who snaps the ball into his own nuts on the three yard line of BC isn't eaten up with nerves. When we pack our schedule with cupcake games and drop games to GA Tech and VA Tech in our own conference, what can we expect? But what's the alternative? A new coach, a new system, a few years to get into it....hell, maybe that would be better than seeing that orange helmet with the white tiger paw that I love with all my heart being shown again and again on TV as a bunch of losers, a team that chokes, a team that can't get to the fabled "next level." These kids played their hearts out this year and for what? The Gaylord Bowl again? Ugh. BTW, I'm loaded too.

  12. Oh yeah, I forgot about the wonderful snaps we got too, I mean, how can you forget that the guy is not under center, isn't he touching the inside of your leg. I know nerves ate everyone up, Tommy didn't smile once during the whole game, it's like he knew we were going to choke. When we didn't put up at least 14 points in the first half, I knew we would face a similar fate to VA Tech when they played them. I have to agree that this was a season long problem though, and that of course, extends beyond even Tommy. He needs to go.
