*DEJECTED SIGH*

Awww, shit... that's my only thought after sitting at work listening to Clemson blow a lead (with a lot of help from the refs) to a team they swept in the regular season in a game considered a must win. Clemson continued to not be able to play 40 minutes of basketball, continued to get short shrift from the zebras, and continued their downward spiral into the NIT tournament. Pat Forde sums it up as well as anyone can over at ESPN.

James Mays was nowhere to be found (3 pts, 5 rebounds, 3 fouls), and it seemed the Tigers turned the ball over at the worst possible times (is there a good time?). It was the Clemson endgame we've come to witness since our 7-1 football team began their nosedive and the 17-0 basketball team did them one better. Dare I mention the baseball team that has looked much worse than advertised of late? I'm not wanting to come off too needy, I don't need a top 10 season in every sport to keep being a fan. This season was one of the most fun I've had watching Clemson football and basketball, despite their endings that only R. Bud Dwyer could love. I would just like a little consistency.

Frankly, I'm not crying over Clemson not being in the real tournament. A team that starts 17-0 only to absolutely bite it and go 4-10 for the second half of the season doesn't deserve such a privilege. Not to say I wouldn't like to see them in. Remember how fun that tournament run a decade or so was, even when watching Minnesota slip by in 2OT? Regardless of how poorly the Tigers ended this season, I'm still looking forward to the 07-08 campaign, but if we start 17-0, I'm not gonna get my hopes up.

  1. i had something funny to write, but it got lost in this coke-fueled haze of mine...
it had something to do with the basketball team doesn't have the conditioning to play more than 30 minutes a game while the football team doesn't have the conditioning to play more than 8 games.
    sorry to disappoint.

  2. I don't know whether to offer a congrats for continuing your season (if only in the NIT), or to offer my condolences for having to watch said continued season. Thankfully it looks like my shitty Cocks are done for the season and we can all concentrate on 2 great baseball teams.

  3. OOC, how do you slip through the cracks of the other mouth breathing Gamecock fans?? You are by far one of the more pleasant USC fans to deal with. Kudos, friend.

  4. Well, thank you, but to be honest, when you're a visitor in another man's house, you eat what he serves and you don't bring up politics counter to his- well unless it is welcomed and encouraged. I've seen other blogs with visitors that are just assholes and everyone hates, but you really can't do much about them- I don't want to be one of those. Also, it's not football season, things ended on an OK note for us, we had a good recruitng season, and baseball season is here. I've also seen much less friendly Clemson fans as well than those that are here, they usually show up posting where asshole USC fans are posting, so I guess crap encourages crap.
I'm glad this is not a Rival or Scout-type place. There are idiots on all sides at those places.

  5. Such a pathetic ending to something that used to seem so good. Oh well...there's always...next...year.

The sad thing is that Mays actually played a pretty good game, despite his stat line. His defensive intensity was at a great level. Had he played at that level through February, we'd have finished 11-5. Too bad he didn't.

  7. Crap, Crud and other such expository phrases. I have never seen a team taken advantage of by the evil zebras the way Clemson has been all season long. Purnell is a character guy, but I think he is long overdue for a Jim More Sr.-esque press conference meltdown. Ah well, maybe Clemson will have a good run in the NIT. Speaking of baseketball, you guys here at DFIG have got a good eye for beautiful women and you STILL haven't posted a shot of the Lady Tiger's own CARRIE WHITEHURST???? She is gorgeous and I think she's Charlie's sister. Which may be a knock against her to some folks, but not me...

  8. Ahhh, Bud Dwyer! One of Pennsylvania's finest. The other guy who was implicated in that scandal only got a few months in the can. If only Bud knew...

  9. Carrie is Whitehursts sister and maybe you saw a picture of her that did extreme justice because in real life shes a big-ug linebacker type who is also a bitch. Her head is way bigger than Charlie's and she's not that good of a basketball player. Just my two cents worth. I've taken a few AL classes with her and she acts like she's Danny Ford's gift to earth.

Also, word verification = zjaek ... if you have to ask, you can't afford it.

  10. to second what Willy Mac said: buddy of mine said she and charlie & entourage would roll up at their fraternity house (off campus) and park their car blocking off the driveway, leading them to be towed twice. She also would walk up to people and demand cigarettes and even ask someone "don't you know who I am???"

  11. How come it doesn't surprise me to hear that Whitehurst's sister is a tw@t?

Anywho, Basketball collapses ala Football. Football can't pass, basketball can't shoot. Deep problems in Clemson athletics. I think it's something in the air.

  13. Yeah, I saw a picture of her in Orange & White that made her look like a more attractive version of Keira Knightley. The shot was looking up at her and she had her head tilted to the left. That must be her good side.

Unfortunately, I don't live in The South anymore (dammit!) so O&W is one of my only outlets for Clemson info. You mean every Clemson fan doesn't traverse the globe holding up little Clemson flags at every famous site along the way? My favorite was the shot of the guy on the Via Della Rosa in Jerusalem during Holy Week...
